A Designer’s Checklist for PSD Mockup Files

A tidy PSD makes revisions faster and keeps presentations consistent. Review these points before you share a mockup.

Organize the layers

• Group artwork, background, lighting and annotations separately.
• Name editable layers by purpose.
• Keep an untouched source copy before experimenting.

Check readability

View the design at the size your audience will use. Check type and contrast on mobile and desktop. Keep a prominent “SPECIMEN” or “FICTIONAL PROP” label legible.

Use fictional details

Replace real personal data with invented examples. Avoid authentic seals or features that imply official use. Rely on composition, material and lighting to present the design.

Prepare delivery

Export a flattened preview and keep the editable PSD separate. Open both files again to check for missing fonts, shifted layers or cropped labels. Describe the file format and creative purpose in your notes.
